A FoundMyFitness episode on how microplastics and associated chemicals such as BPA and PFAS accumulate in the body, including the brain and reproductive systems. It also discusses ways to reduce exposure.
Mentioned occasionally as an episode on environmental toxins in food and water, though one commenter lumps it in with unregulated quackery.

"Why on earth would they give funding to research if the people who pay for that research (you) actively think it's scam?" First of all. I never specifically said that the research is a scam. I am fully onboard with real research into the topic to explore the effects on health "You are arguing that the government shouldn't fund research on this problem (it's a grift)" That is NOT what I said, I specifically believe the so called "health and wellness industry" is capitalizing on largely unfounded beliefs that microplastics are already proven to be hazardous (not true). If it turns out that microplastics are actually a serious health hazard, that doesn't even mean that the health and wellness industry is right, they just got lucky on another grift. They operate thousands of grifts every year often selling things that are blatantly dangerous. I am pro good research. I am anti unregulated bullshit quackery like the below videos link link link ▶ this video link
> Also, isn't handling a lot of receipt paper bad for you or something? Yes if you are worried about microplastics. Dr. Rhonda Patrick has an episode where she talks about receipts specifically (at the 1hr 2m mark) [0]. To paraphrase: thermal paper receipts are loaded with BPA which gets absorbed through your skin. The chemicals are worse too since the plastics for receipts aren't scrutinized like they would be for a food storage item. They use BPA is used as a color developer in thermal printing. It gets way worse if you've used hand sanitizer, lotion, or sunscreen recently since those increase skin permeability. Studies show dramatically higher absorption rates when your skin barrier is compromised. Although I can't find a link for that right now. Definitely something to think about if you're a cashier or work somewhere handling receipts all day. I've started just declining receipts unless I actually need them for returns/expense reports. Dr. Rohnda Patrick just did a great episode on PFAS, microplastics, and other environmental toxins in food and water. Tap water tends to have less of these PFAS/nano plastics than bottled water via degradation of the bottle. Topo Chico is especially problematic (nothing to do with the bottle).[0] [0]: ▶ this video
